Chatham Basement

After a heavy storm and severe water damage these clients were ready for a basement makeover and Virden Home was here to help under the guidance of Spaces by Hollie.

New flooring and painting were already complete when we stepped in. Our first task was a unique ceiling treatment. Instead of tearing down the outdated drop ceiling, the old commercial foam tiles were replaced with birch veneer.

Virden Home was also commissioned to build a few unique pieces for the space. One of which was a long built-in birch wood bench. The bench doubled as storage cabinets and at the end was a reading nook w/ a built in toy chest.

Did you know that Virden Home also makes cushions and drapery? Here is a detail of the custom cushion and bolster pillows for the reading nook.

At another corner of the room we helped to create a children's study area. We installed a cork board wall for art and built a kid friendly trestle table w/ a high gloss finish for easy cleaning. The table top was also made of birch to complement the built in at the opposite corner.

In the adjacent room there was a small kitchenette, which needless to say, needed a facelift.

New cabinet fronts were purchased and Virden Home refinished everything in Matcha Green by Claire Paint. The upper cabinets were removed and replaced w/ custom built birch shelves to make the space feel more open. After new countertops and sink were installed Virden Home built custom scalloped backsplash.

Designed by Spaces by Hollie this backsplash is truly one of a kind.

Lastly, across from the kitchenette was a bespoke peg board wall. Various length pegs were made and the board took up the full wall. The kitchenette also shares a space with laundry, so this was a fun and low profile way to have a space for laundry to dry, or storage for various hanging objects. Another clever Hollie idea!

Special thanks to Hollie Velten from Spaces by Hollie Velten for entrusting us again to make her wonderful designs come to life!
